Does anybody have a rich uncle who'd like to step in and take over those bulb
companies and create a bulb company that could build a stellar reputation?

Actually, Bill, I think there are already plenty of those around.  I've already had good luck with Dutch Gardens, and several others.  Even Van Bourgondein's (bulbs only).  Of course, by comparison, anything would be better than Mich. Bulb.
