Try either Magnolia Vine (Schizandra chinensis) or Strawberry Vine
(Schizandra rubriflora). These plants are native to China and
Russia and will thrive in Zone 5. The also are very good in shade.
The flowers on the Strawberry Vine look like strawberries, the
Magnolia Vine are a little less noticeable but set on a small red
fruit that is very attractive.
You can mail order these plants from a company called One Green
World here in Oregon. They have a website at
