Re: Organic/weed control

Hello Anne,
There is not such thing as being a little bit pregnant. You can not really be
organic and use Roundup on the property. At least not "officially".
Having said that.... I have stayed away from herbicides and pesticides for the
past 25 years as much as I possibly can. Things took a bit to come into balance on
my 5 acres, but they did after about 3 years when I first moved here. It is quite
rare that we must use a pesticide around here. My partner is more apt to spray
than I, but she too is learning to think before picking up the spray. We do use
roundup... simply too much to handle manually. Period. So... we are not truly
organic here, but stay as close as we can in the real world.
I would recommend that you contact Wild Ones before you get into your prairie
garden project. So many have gone there before you. No sense in re-inventing the
wheel . Good group. In fact, their annual meeting in Shelbyville, KY (near
Louisville) on Saturday the 11th. Will be over there giving a talk on woodland
wildflowers, fall planting.
