Around here (and this is an official secret) the fire companies supply
water to fill swimming pools, for a donation; we know this because we
live across the road from a hydrant and is it busy at this time of year!
I'm in New York State, zone 5ish, 100 miles from NYC, and the roses are
having a banner year;
six years ago we moved to our present house, and took with us a "Paul's
Himalayan Musk" rose, that was supposed to be a climber that
particularly liked to grow up through trees; it was very subdued until
last year when it began climbing, and this year it has just gone every
which way, full of light pink fragrant blossoms, wherever you look, and
more than twenty feet from the center.
The Gertrude Jekyll has also outdone itself.
