Claire!
I know one person who will be THRILLED with this news: My Mom! I have to say I miss the ol' Rog as well. I agree, the new host is trying, and doing a fine job, but the content has not interested me. They are definitely playing to a different audience. And you're right, another garden show is always a good thing. I tape them and watch them on Sat. night, my usual reward after a Sat. of hard work in the garden (or hard garden shopping?!).
Oooh, one question -- this will be broadcast nationally? I'm in Oregon.

For those who miss Roger Swain from the Victory Garden, he is back.
He will be on a entirely new show put together by the New England magazine
People, Places, & PLANTS.
It will be filmed at Weston Nurseries which is well known in New England
(Mass. near Boston) and Roger will be 1/3 of the program. Stating his
family has lived in New England for 400 years, this show will be from New
England. With his wife as producer it will have a free hand so we shall see.
He will be allowed a end of program commentary, sort of like Andy Rooney.
There is national distribution planned, the website will announce the debut.
It is
This magazine is a must have for anyone in New England or Eastern New York or
anyone planning to travel here. They are behind the TV show. I do hope this
will be a real gardeners TV program. You cannot love all topics, but once in
while one should please.
Weston Nurseries is owned by a family named Mezitt. The justly famed PJM
(Paul J. Mezitt) was developed there. PJM's for those who live in kinder
climates is a rhododendron group that will bloom without fail in all of the
nastiest parts of NY, New England and Canada. If you can grow no other, you
can grow a PJM. We have nearly exclusively PJM's and they are the best for
us. Another good one is 'Olga'.
Another garden show, things are looking up. This one from gardeners so maybe
there will be a place for gardeners after all, on TV. Now if they would only
skip the early Saturday time and put it somewhere you could watch later in
the day.
Does anyone have a comment on the new Victory Garden. If you live around
here, you just know it comes from Boston's Back Bay. Maybe it will get
better. The host is trying. If you are old enough to remember the Crockett
shows, you remember an extremely well informed host with an easy manner.
