success at last

About four years ago I spent about $60.00 on seeds for perennials; I
bought them from a Canadian grower, because I'm in NY State, zone 5ish,
and figured that seeds from Canada would grow into plants that could
take the short growing season we usually have. I chose those that were
described as easy to grow, self-seeding, and which came highly
recommended in the catalogue.
The varieties that were successful, meaning I got a goodly number of
plants and they have survived and even filled out were penstemon,
mallow, lychnis coronaria and chalcedonica, painted daisy, one type of
grass, sanguinaria, another that I can't ever remember the name of, and
that's about all.
But one lone japanese anemone made it, and until this year just grew
leaves; this year there are blossoms on it, and it has started to grow
other plants nearby.
I'm not sure if my investment of time and money was economical, but it's
lovely to have a lot of plants that would ordinarily cost a fortune to
buy.
