My experiences with your "down south" nursery trip pretty much echos mine.
Some tears ago, I stopped at White Flower Farm and though the gardens were
nice, I thought the help was rude........no, maybe just arrogant. Something
that made me not want to go back. Now, as for Variegated Foliage Nursery (
known as Stone Pine Nursery in its first year), I visit there with my
Connecticut gardening daughter every year, sometimes twice. We first went to
Stone Pine a week or so before they really opened, but owner Stan Megas let
us in . We were a group of 5 on our way to Massachusetts to visit
nurseries,hybridizers,etc.
I also used to visit Twombly's regulaarly but, several years ago, I finally
made a long overdue trip to Broken Arrow. I can't wait to see visitthose two
Connecticut nurseries.
And when I visit my other daughter in Massachusetts, I always visit Leo
Blanchette's perennial nursery, another jewel. in fact, I expect to see Leo
this weekend. Great perennials as well as rock garden plants.
