===>I've never known Japanese beetles to disappear in a day, Donna. I don't
think they migrate. I suspect you just haven't discovered which plants
they've decided are their favorites this year. You can almost always count on
roses, of course. And mine love crepe myrtles. Earlier in the season they
were hanging out on the liatris, but I think they were just perching there,
not eating. Ditto the asparagus. Now that the hardy hisbiscus have started
blooming, I'm finding them just under the flowers where the petals touch
adjacent parts of the plant. An occasional one inside a hollyhock flower.
They nearly killed a dawn redwood here one year, but don't seem to have
returned to it since.
Local experts say our ground is so hard that the females will have difficulty
laying eggs and we may find them scarce next year.
