Tour day is over

Hello All,

Well, my very first tour is over and I think was a success. It was a grey day, great for the colors - they just pop in the diffuse light. It may have discouraged a few people thinking it might rain, but not a drop was felt. I have to admit that as 9:45 (the "official" time to be here) came and went and no body had shown, I got very worried. But the first car was a friend of a friend's and she said they were right behind her in leaving the first garden. The was a final total of 50 give or take a few - people from northern Vermont, Connecticut and outer Cape Cod; about half signed the garden guest book. Some people who are AHS members, who don't go to the local club meetings came by too - that was exciting.

Every one ooo'd and ahh'd over the daylilies down at the bottom of my driveway, but what I got the most comments on were my perennial selections - for the foliage and the flowers as a contrast to the straps and rounds. I sent a few friends home with seedlings of a few of my favorite accents ( a euphorbia I got as donkey's tail and Chasmanthium latifolium or Sea Oats).

Several of the geraniums got lots of attention - of course the one that got the most is one I bought as "blue cranes bill" in a bargain bin at a local nursery. It stays upright instead of flopping. The sedums loved the weather and are huge.

The best combinations of the day yesterday -
a small yellow daylily on 30"+ scapes with an intensely blue globe thistle - lots of photos taken there
a daylily small ivory flower with an intense purple maroon eye backed by a purple sedum (Bertam Anderson)
a dramatic purple bitone spider against the Sea Oats grass.

I could ramble on, but I am still tired and still haven't had my second cup of tea and there is a lot of house work to catch up on here. I wonder why?

Thank you to all of you for your support while I got ready for this. I will definitely agree to host an other tour passing through.
Warmest!
Cheryl
