That's been my experience, too, Don. Tried every other method I'd
heard of, which resulted in mostly rotted or desiccated rhizomes.
One year, dug them and put in wheelbarrow, wheeled it into the garage
and life intervened and there they stayed. Had the best survival
ever, so now, they get dug and set into something encased in whatever
soil came up with them and left in the garage where I occasionally
sprinkle some water on them if they look like getting too dry.
Those who live in pots for the summer just get brought in and left
in the pots. Some get a bit more water than others, depending on who
else is living in the same pot. Some don't go truly dormant under
those circs and some do. If they are really lucky, they get new
potting soil in spring and if they are not, they get some Osmacote:-)
