RE: Where are You? I am here writing away

Hello Donna

So to the daylily folks on the list. When is the best time to divide
them? I was thinking the fall when they are done blooming, but maybe
spring is better? Actually I was thinking of tomorrow, since they are
crowding out everything... but they are in bud or flowering here, so
that's not going to work.
IF you use care, you can divide them in bloom. If I want to do it and preserve the scapes, I soak each clump , individually for 2-3 hours and then sit down and plan to get dirty as I gently pry the fans apart.

I've seen some one wield a large knife and basically cut the root ball apart. It works, but I'd worry about introducing infection. Or cutting myself!

I have divided and replanted from April until October. Just keep them watered!
