Oh No, Marilyn! Now you've introduced another new term to me. "Cleaning"
the seed? Shall I look for a tiny little poppy seed vacuum at Walmart?

Another creative idea Kelly!
I simply use soft plastic green flagging tape and write on it with a
sharpie pen what color the flowers are. I tie this around the green stem
and it doesn't show much. Seed pods are collected in a brown paper bag when
dry and hung from the garage rafters until I get around to cleaning the
seeds. You can write on the paper bag too.

Thought I'd share my method. I didn't have any plastic plant tags, nor
enough twist ties. What I do have is embroidery floss and a digital camera.
I tied a different color piece of floss on each different colored flower,
took it's picture, and made a chart showing floss color, petal color, and
photo number. I'll print out a small picture of each to put on the bag. As
long as the floss doesn't fade too much, I think it should work. The floss
is so light, it doesn't show at all to the casual observer. I'm sure yarn
would work too. Kelly

I will piggyback onto Marilyn's comment with one addition: IF it matters to
you what color the poppies are (when saving the seeds) I take plastic plant
tags and punch a hole in one end with a one-hole punch. I take twist ties
of some sort and attach the tag, identified with the color/type of of poppy
(i.e., pink fringed or dark red peony type) to the poppy stem somewhere.
Obviously this has to be done while the poppy is blooming. But the leaves
are usually big enough that the tags aren't seen.
