I've often wished for some magic little seed vacuum that would only
vacuum up the trash and leave the seed:-)

Poppy seed usually comes out pretty cleanly, but many seeds end up
with all sorts of plant detritus plus small insects, which you need
to remove to obtain clean seed for storing or sowing. I find it a
rather tedious project for winter evenings;-)

There are as many methods of cleaning seed as there are gardeners.
Kristl Walek (Gardens North Seed) has a page on seed cleaning that
will give you a nice overview of what's involved - she also has other
info. about seed sowing (hit the link at the bottom of the page).
