Hello Nancy,
    The article covers sowing, germinating and caring for seedlings in pots
in a side bar. The article does have a section or two on general and
specific care in the garden. The general part covers matching up the plant
with your local pH.... a lot of gentian are pretty tolerant about pH, but
some are quite sensitive. Just depends upon the species or hybrid you are
trying to grow. Most people never consider pH in the garden and wonder why
some plants they simply can not grow. That is the first thing that comes to
mind. Beyond that, would need more details. Going to have to come see your
garden one of these days.........
