Scabiosa/Pincushion Flower

Hello, everyone. I have three scabiosa plants in my garden, full sun.
This is their third year and for some reason, the flowers are much smaller
this year than with the previous years. The blooms are only a little
bigger than a fifty-cent piece; otherwise, the actual plant seems healthy
enough. There's plenty of foliage.

The only thing that I can conclude is that this spring has been an
extremely cool and wet one. I had spread some horse compost around my beds
earlier and I thought it would benefit this plant. What can I do to have
this plant bloom like it's usual self?
