re: geraniums

Chris--you might want to try a small one, Geranium dalmaticum,
light pink blooms and very charming and takes some shade. Also,
consider a large one with huge purple blooms with veining, Geranium
magnificum. Some of the sanguinea group, including the striated ones,
will take some shade--they just won't flower as much.
I grew Geranium phaeum in my former garden and it seeded
EVERYWHERE--but it's lovely and you can pull them out easily.
In the sun in this new garden, I've recently planted a cultivar
crossing phaeum and psilostemon, if I remember right, called "Ann
Folkard"--it's low growing and spreading and the flower is a gorgeous
dark magenta with a black eye. I've got a big bright psilostemon to put
out in full sun on the parking for a meadow-like culture.
