Re: Viola eating insects/pill bugs

My experience has been when the season is early(spring)sow/pill bugs can
be very destructive. They can and will eat any young foliage to sustain
themselves until the season becomes more favorable to their survival. My
violas ,especially the flowers are particular favorites of theirs as
well as pansies and violets.
Their numbers dictate how much of a problem they will be even into the
prime growing season(especially if you mulch your plants or adjacent
areas where they can hide until *supper time where upon they seek out
the tenderest growth of veggie, flowers you name it.)However I have never
know them to eat huge areas out of the chosen item only enough to
cosmetically ruin it but never kill or strip a plant.Wouldnt a video
camera come in handy and you could identify the culprit beyond a shadow
of a doubt?
