Re: Obedient Plant

Just an update from central PA (USDA 6 / Sunset 43):

Thanks to Denise Leonard and lfsin@aol.com for continuing to keep me
informed re the progress of obedient plant (physostegia) in their gardens.

and I concur. 'Summer Snow' and 'Snow Crown' (both white) have already
peaked, and have been blooming since the beginning of July. All of the
pink-flowered strains have visible buds, but some of those are just barely
visible, which means end-of-August / early September first bloom.

The earliest of my pink selections is just now beginning to bloom. That's
two to four weeks earlier than any of the other pinks, but not yet good
enough. One of my goals is to match the bloom time of the early whites. I
guess that I am halfway there.

And for those of you who only know this plant in the garden, some of the
wild accessions I am working with are over 6' tall (IN POTS!) and are not
yet in bloom. I am expecting them to be close to 7' tall when they bloom.
