Pottsey, My first thought was what a strange combination of opposites Hosta
and Lavender are. Generally speaking, Hostas prefer cool, moist, acidic
shade. And Lavenders prefer warm-hot, drier, alkaline-neutral full sun (a
Mediterranian plant). Is your Hosta bed shade/part shade? If so, move the
Lavender. If you take a nice big root ball and do your moving in the cool
of the morning or evening, it should be fine. Be sure to keep it well
watered until it is reestablished. A Lavender from a 4" pot should make at
least a nice basketball sized plant the first growing season and then become
a nice "bush" next year.
