My favorites (for fragrance, not necessarily blooms) are:
Asclepias incarnata (swamp milkweed)
Convallaria majalis (lily of the valley)
Filipendula rubra (queen of the prairie)
Hosta (certain types)
Hyacinth spp.
Muscari spp. (grape hyacinth)
Paeonia (certain types -- peonies)
Phlox paniculata (garden phlox)
Rosa rugosa ( http://www.mallorn.com/pom/Jul98/ )
Syringa meyeri
Viburnum x burkwoodii, juddii, bodnatense
Viburnum carlesii ( http://www.mallorn.com/pom/Apr98/ )
Up close kinds of smells:
Buddleia 'Black Knight' (smells like mulberries & honey to me)
Centranthus ruber (Jupiter's beard)
Dodecatheon meadia ( http://www.mallorn.com/pom/May98/ -- smells
just like orange blossoms!)
Pachysandra terminalis
Podophyllum peltatum (may apples)
Of course, there's many more, but these are the only ones that I can
come up with off the top of my head.
Also, even though I'm just listing floral fragrances, I REALLY enjoy
gardening with fragrances from less obvious sources -- brushing against
the leaves, fruit, etc.
