Howdy all,
I'd like to address some of the "chattiness" and off-topic posts
that have been becoming more frequent on this list lately.
Although I'm really glad that everyone is having so much fun, the
list is becoming less useful to a lot of people and degrading the
performance of our servers.
So, please -- try and keep posts on topic and containing some
perennials content. I'll admit that there are times when off-topic
posts are valid, and in fact I've perpetuated/encouraged some of
these discussions (of course, I'm never really going to say that my
stuff is off-topic :).
Some of the stuff that I'd like to see cut back:
"Me too" posts -- if you agree with someone about something,
send them personal mail about it or add
something to the discussion. But please
don't just say 'me too.'
Annuals and/or -- annuals are ok for discussion if they're
woody plants within the context of perennials, as
are woody plants. But discussions about
culture or propagation of these types
isn't really appropriate here.
There is a mailing list dedicated specifically
to woody plants:
http://www.mallorn.com/lists/woodyplants/
Forwarding -- when you reply to a message, only forward the
unnecessary text relevant parts back to the list. If you quote
the entire message unnecessarily, it congests
the mail servers and everybody's mailboxes.
I think of it as "Internet pollution."
Of course, there are always exceptions to the rules. Use your
better judgement. If you want more information about Internet
etiquette (or "netiquette"), there's a page all about it at:
http://www.mallorn.com/lists/netiquette.html
I don't want anybody to feel like I'm attacking or accusing them.
These are just general comments that I think will help make this
list even better for the rest of us.
Thanks,
Chris
