Hi Barb,
Are the plants that need to be watered reasonably close together,
or moveable (i.e. container plants). If so, you could use a
sprinkler and a timer (low-end timers run about $20).
I personally wouldn't be without my timer. Last year when I
went on vacation I moved all of my potted plants out back under
the oak, set up the sprinkler, and everything was hunky-dory.
I think I had it watering every other day.
This year I'm counting on the irrigation system that I'm putting
in to do it all. :) It's actually really nice, and it doesn't
cost much $$$. Just lots of time.
