Susan,
I wouldn't bother even collecting facts for this person.  It has nothing 
to do with oxygen, it has to do with power and control over his wife, 
which is the paramount sign of a batterer.  If he's this controlling 
about a houseplant, think how he'd react to not being able to control her 
about something big.  I'm sure he appears to be the last person you'd 
expect to abuse his partner, but watch him.
