I guess the easiest to answer is the last - just about any plant you care to
mention (with a very few exceptions) can be done from cuttings. We've
literally done hundreds of species of plants this way. The hardest are the
woody and coniferous but perennials -which this list is concerned with - are
usually quite easy.
Fungus or damping off has not been a problem for us because we allow free
air circulation around the cuttings - both using our mist system for regular
cuttings and the pot-in-pot/antidessicant system for grey leaf cuttings
(grey leaved plants rot under mist). I suspect it would be more of a
problem in a covered environment or one in which air was not allowed to
circulate. Mind you, one of the primary lessons to be learned by any seed
starter or cutting taker is to ensure good ventilation in the work area
around the stem zone. Problems only occur with too much water and too
little ventilation caused by not enough air movement or too much crowding of
plants. Haven't used any chemical treatment for pythium, phytophera or
black rot in quite a few years.
