They might be Crocosmia...
I have Crocosmia 'Lucifer', and your description sounds similar.
Unfortunately, I placed them near the front of my garden arrangement this
year. They reached 30" heights last year and bloomed in late summer...like
August-style late summer...and I thought they would be a good mask for some
of the tired late summer doldrum plants.
This year I created a bed for hot colors and wildlife plants. That
orangy-red seemed like a good addition...just right...and the hummingbirds
love it. Those plants reared up and grew into 5' monsters, masking the
Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet' right behind it. That was something of a
blessing in disguise since they bloomed concurrently and Gardenview's
purply-red clashed horribly with it. Both have now subsided into deadheaded
tolerability, thank goodness, and I hope the Nino/Nina weather kids are
finished playing with us for a few years, anyway.
