Re: setcresea

Just stick it in the ground. It doesn't like real wet feet but
otherwise is carefree. And I'm serious that you just
stick a cutting in the ground and the plant does the rest. It will
multiply on its own and you can help it along by taking cuttings as
it gets bigger and sticking those cuttings in the ground. You can
try overwintering it but be sure to have some cuttings inside. It's
not reliably hardy north of zone 8. It makes a wonderful hanging
basket all by itself as it trails.

This is "Purple Heart" and it's a *great* plant. Since you have just
a bit, I'd suggest a container planting. This year I have some
really nice containers containing "Purple Heart", Verbena 'Homestead
Purple' and a chartreuse-y trailing Sedum. I'm about to add some to
a big container of variegated Yucca, Ipomea 'Blackie' and 'Black
Prince' snapdragons since the snaps are kind of fading here (NW GA,
zone 7a, very hot and muggy). I wish I'd bought Ipomea 'Margarita'
too -- it's terriffic with "Purple Heart" but the only local nursery
that had it wanted a lot for it. You can also plant it in the
ground, of course, and it looks good in big masses or small clumps.
Can you tell I love it? ;- }

"Purple Heart" made the cover of the latest "Horticulture", in a
container planting. It looks blue-purple in their photo but I've
never seen it that way -- always a warm plum. In an article, they
mention that it has recently been reclassified as a Tradescantia,
which makes sense.
