Stokesia

Hi Dee Ann,
I was surprised that no one mentioned them earlier also. I have
three clumps of them and they really bloomed profusely this summer but
they really did a flop number. I'm going to do some pruning a la "the
well Tended Perennial Garden" next year and see if I can do something
to control that. In the meantime, my marching soldier plants are
supporting them nicely.
They are listed as blue, but I am finding that I must be
colored-blind because what the books call blue, in my opinion, are
more purple. This led to my nightmare of the purple and orange garden
combination that I have. All the varieties of campanula that I have
are purple and I think the stokesia and even the scabiosa are closer
to purple than blue.
Off the subject, it seems to me that as you look through garden
books you find that there are more purple, pink, golden yellow and
orange than anything else. I'm having a tough time finding a good,
bright red.
