Wow! Congratulations! Where from? And how far is it from
Champaign-Urbana? :)

You have to be careful with the clay pots; they'll probably crack. I've
had tremendous success planting them in their original gallon containers,
so long as the soil level in the pot is slightly above the soil level
outside (otherwise you're making a hole for water to drain into and
drown your plant). With the hardier stuff I've even dumped a half
dozen bags of mulch and "planted" the pots right into that.

I don't think so; I think they require dormancy. But I'm not much of a
clematis expert -- it's another plant that I just can't get into.
