I just spent nearly $30 on 1 gal. perennials.
All $2.00 each!!!!
Wow, that's a great price. In my neck of the
woods, you'd have paid $6-7 each.
Also included 4 clematis (un-named cultivars)!!
But the Clematis are another story.
Every inch of climbing space I have is busy
right now!
I'm not sure what you mean by this, but
another thought is growing them through a
"host plant," which is actually their preferred
method of growing. For instance, growing them
through a lilac or some other shrub that flowers
once and is "over." You can stagger the bloom
times this way and get the most "bang for your
buck" space-wise. Or they can even scramble on
the ground or through low shrubs. If you need
help with how/where to plant them in this
fashion, let me know if I can help. My motto
is, anything that doesn't move out of the way
gets something grown through it. So many
climatis!
I'm thinking about planting them in clay pots
& then planting the pot so I can
move them next spring.
Does this sound "do'able??"
You can just sink them in the ground in their
existing pots. I am 6b/7a, but I do this every
winter with my summer purchased "greed"
plants! If you're concerned about your winter,
just pile some brush/leaves/whatever over them.
They are pretty hearty and I have not had any
die this way.
What would happen if I took the Clematis
inside this fall & put them under
flourescent lights??
I probably wouldn't do that. But someone else
may know more about that.
Enjoy!
