This plant is 2 years old, started from seed. The blade-like leaves 8" or
so by 1" come out of the ground in the Spring in a fan shape.
They continue to grow up a stalk in an alternate pattern until the plant
reaches about 5' tall. The numerous flowers are 6 petal, longer than they
are wide with an overall flower diameter of 2". The color of the flower is
a mottled red/yellow with dark dots toward the center. The underside is a
lighter value. A distinguishing feature is what happens to the flower after
it opens. All of the petals twist together to form a perfect spiral just as
though someone had rolled them.
Hope this is not too vague a description - any tips appreciated.
Thanks,
Gail
