loosestrife - reply


Here's an example of why the latin names of plants are more useful in
many cases than the common names.  Lythrums and Lysimachias are both
referred to as 'loosestrifes.' However, only Lythrum is a danger to
wetlands; Lysimachias do not infest the wild, but will spread vigorously
in your garden and need to be controlled.  Gooseneck loosestrife is
Lysimachia clethroides; there are several other varieties within this
group.
