Re: Sedum confusion
Hi Marge,
Thanks for your information. It is a big help to me, as I
prepare to tear up the yard in favor of more garden areas.
I'll plant the Sedum spectabile 'Meteor' in a spot that gets
filtered sun, along with my Hosta (brought here from
Michigan and doing fine) and my Astilbe, (also brought from
Michigan) which would clash with the Meteor, I think, if
they had the same bloom time, which they don't. ;)
A friend of mine is giving me some of her "excess" plants,
and among those is a really nice Thyme (darn, should have
brought the variegated one I had in Michigan!) and some
chives. I also have some parsley seed I could start this
year. (Mental note--find a place for an herb garden.) Of
course, that means I need to pick up some lavender
......hmmmmmm
This yard is an odd mix of sun and shade. The small garden
bed I just put in by my back porch would normally get
morning sun, but there is a huge tree in the neighbor's yard
that filters the sun until around 9:30 am. From then until
around 1:00pm, it gets full sun. After that, the bed is
shaded by the house. I've put in several plants that I
brought from Michigan, which were in a similar location
there, and have filled in the spaces with some annuals. I'm
just hoping that's enough sun for the clematis (Jackmanii,
mislabled Henrii by Walmart) that I just planted by the
porch rail. I also found a beautiful variegated Phlox,
(unlabled), which has a flower that reminds me of 'Bright
Eyes'. This bed is working out to be primarily pinks and
purples, with a nice pale yellow Coreopsis 'moonbeam' as an
accent color. I had originally planned to put the Sedum in
this bed, but with the information I have received so far, I
think I'd be better off to put it in the filtered shade bed.
I'm having so much fun with creating the new garden beds,
that I have sadly neglected the unpacking still to be done.
But, you know, if I didn't get the plants I brought from
Michigan in the ground right away, they would die! So, I
*had* to start on the garden! I did lose my Russian Sage :(
Lisa
who will be starting my new job on Monday, so obviously
needs to get the garden beds going before then! (unpacking
can wait <G>)
