Your zone and climate please. I'd like to try
this myself.

I don't know about dividing, but when I cut by
buddelia back this spring
(a different cultivar than black knight), I stuck
some cuttings in some
dirt outside for a lark and they all rooted and
are now flowering. I
gave them exactly zero care.

Short question, I planted two buddelia's two
years ago, and they are
magnificent, but are now to large for the bed
they are planted in.
Black
Knight, and I forget the name of the lavender
one. Can I divide them?
Will
they crump if I do? I do cut them back in early
spring, resulting in
more
branches and lots more buds and flowers.
Would spring be the best time, or can I dig up,
divide with the root
ball, in
fall, to let them settle in before spring?
Any suggestions would be welcome! I'd hate to
kill them because I
didn't know
the right way! The divisions would be moved
to a new bed now being
prepared,
on the same side of the house where they are
living now, the heavy clay
soil
is being prepped the same way with lots of
compost mixed in with some
gypsum
to facilitate drainage.
I have not fertilized in any way for two years,
but I do use Osmocote
on the
nearby bulbs, just sort of work in all around.
I'm sure the buddelia's
got
some of the Osmocote from the nearby soil.
I live in St Louis, Zone 5-6
Thanks!
Wanda
