RE: Penstemon barbatus

Dear Isabelle, Penstemon 'Huskers Red' DOES have white flowers and very
dark red leaves. Heaven only knows which one you actually ended up with,
but at least you like it. ;+)

I actually grew penstemon from seed, which I started last year;

this year, the plants grew tall and are now in bloom, with pretty white
small flowers which the bees love;

the catalog said these were penstemon husker's red, which is supposed to
have red flowers and dark red leaves, but they turned out to have white
flowers and green leaves;

all in all I am glad I grew them, and depending on how many years' enjoyment
they'll provide, they'll have been a good choice;

not like the salvia I wrote about last week, which had a candelabra shape,
smelled like rancid oil, with light green cottony leaves, and a very small,
short-lived white flower;

this was the second season the plant grew, and the first it flowered; I
recently took them all up, as a dud.
