Definitely lysimachia 'Firecracker'. The purplish-maroon leaves are a
standout by themselves, but when you add the dime-sized golden flowers --
watch out! Since it IS a lysimachia, I'm sure I'll have plenty for next
year. Quite pretty with other yellow flowering plants, especially
coreopsis. Bloom lasts quite a long time and it needs no care from me in
amended clay soil in full sun.
Another goody is a phlox paniculata whose cultivar I cannot remember. The
individual blooms are red and white striped like the round peppermint
candies. Everyone who saw it remarked on the unusual coloration. And
since I'm a phlox fan, it didn't take much to persuade me to get some more.
And an annual that I might add is nicotania and cleome. I forgot why I
stopped including these every year in my garden, but now that they're back,
I'm not about to let them get away from me again. Now if only I could grow
the lime-green nicotania (flowering tobbaco) I would be in seventh
heaven...
