Something I like, but is a bit aggressive by nature, is the various forms of 
"wondering jew" - though they are aggressive they are easy to pull up where 
not wanted and the winter seems to put them in check.  The flowers, of 
course, is not why you would grow these plants but for the wonderful 
varigations available.  You are sure to find one that would compliment the 
colors of the courtyard.  I like lambsear as a ground cover but I don't know 
how that would look with the yellow walls - great with the terracotta though.
