Re: Books --English

Barb & Valerie,
The climate complaint is quite valid (except for those of you from Oregon). There is
justice in the world: we live in a climate where a hot summer day is 75 degrees F cold
(and my 10 year old son recently looked up at a very rare totally blue sky and asked in
some panic "mom, where are the clouds? true story), but the reward for this is
beautiful flower gardens. I don't agree that the combinations are impossible for a home
gardener, though. Because space is at a premium here, the biggest lesson I learned from
those books was vertical planting combinations, and interplanting to have a full and
interesting border the whole year round. There is never a day, even in December or
January when there are no interesting flowers/shrubs in bloom, lots of scent & lots of
green.
But yes, I too would love an 'old English' staff of 'under-gardeners'.
