Donna, my Peaches-n-Dreams is not tall at all, only about three feet. This
is a second year plant I bought last year as a seedling at one of our local
plant sales. It may not be tall, but it does have lots of flowers. It's
planted in the middle of a long bed, so that there's really nothing behind
it. From anything more than about 15 ft the blooms are unnoticable. The
black hollyhock is planted beside it, and as you know, is not really black
but is such a dark maroon that it looks black from anything more than a few
feet. This one I can see from the livingroom window, which is about 80 ft
from the plant. I bought it at the same time as the Peaches-n-Dreams, and
it has been a much more vigorous performer, being about a foot and a half
taller, and having sent up three stalks.
I have mine planted on the edge of the white section of my garden, which is
composed of white malvas, white Campanula carpatica, white liatris, white
asiatic lilies, a couple of white roses and a white perennial sweet pea.
This really makes the black flowers stand out, so that they almost seem to
glow. I intend to save the seeds and start at least a half dozen more
plants for next year (really the year after since it takes until the second
year before they bloom).
Besides these you might look for a seed strain called East Coast Hybrids
think I have that right) which has some lovely coloured singles and
bicolours including a yellow with an orange centre that is very striking.
The fellow who owns the variety store in town grows them, and they are
really lovely. i have to get seeds from him this year-waited too long and
they'd all dropped last year.
