Were you the person that said that you planted Astilbes with
stella-d'-ore? I did one of mine today and added 3 stella-d'-ore
around it. is the combination gonna work together. the astilbe needs
shade and I'm now wondering if the stella-d'-ore will bloom in the
shade, even tho it is very light shade. my astilbe is red.
It will probable work, since it works for you

Donna - ASTILBE do not need shade-but a soil that does not dry out. They
will grow in full sun as long as the soil is ALWAYS moist. In the sun the
flower colors are diffrent and so is the foliage color. But My ASTILBE
combination with the Stellas is in an area that receives about a half a day
of direct sun and the rest of the time it is open bright diffused light with
very little shade.
The 'Stellas' will bloom in part shader with no problems and the ASTILBE I am
using is a chinensis cultivar, which are more drought tolerant than most of
the other forms.
The nice thing about the combination is that the plants both grow the same
height and are at there peek bloom at the same time. ( Here in Minnsota that
would be the first week of July.)
ASTILBE 'Visions' is a mid to late season bloomer. It is one of my favs for
an ASTILBE.
I have grown 55 diffrent ASTILBE cultivars in the last three years and It is
on my top five list. I do not have favorite plants but make groups of plants
I like over other plants.
