purple coneflower
hi all "a problem"
I just took an afternoon stroll in the yard, to see what is still alive
and what has bit the dust. the temp here is 95 and the heat index is
105 not as bad as yesterday, but the day is not over yet. they are
predicting 100 for Sunday and no tell what the heat index will be and
no rain in site.
my problem is that I noticed that my purple coneflowers may be ready to
harvest. I know it's about time to plant seed now. I don't know what
the are suppose to look like when the are ready to harvest
I looked at the ones that are new blooms and the center is an orange
color as you look at them from a side view and they are soft to
touch the older blooms, the petals are just about gone they
have a few petals hanging on, but the center is dark and brittle or
firm with no color. Now when do I harvest them?
another thing I have one plant that has two babies can I seperate
them and transplant to a differant location if so when do I
seperate them from the mother plant and how do I go about this do I
try to get some of the root system (that may be a stupid question) but
this is my first purple coneflower I have just 3 of them + the 2
babies wish I had a whole bed of them, and that's what I aiming
at.
I hope help is on it's way via the perennial list
have a good day
