Re: Caryopteris/ Blue Mist Spirea

Hello Barb,
The "official" descriptions for Caryopteris list the Longwood Blue at 3
feet in height, while Worchester Gold is listed as 2 feet. Caryopteris
usually form spreading shrubs that get a bit more across than height. When I
planted mine it was into halfway decent garden soil and used compost as a
mulch. Then used hardwood bark mulch again about 6 months later. Mulch is
important for conserving moisture and keeping a bit of the heat off the root
zone.
If you think you have an infestation of bugs doing damage I would handle
it now before the shrub comes into bloom. Also they have enough stress on
them with all this heat and no rain.
