I'm with Bob -- just let the seeds drop where they will, then
transplant the seedlings. I moved some seedlings this spring
(and threw away about three dozen, sorry!), and they look good but
will not bloom this year, it looks like. I really like the white
ones, which don't seem to seed as heavily -- only two seedlings,
which I left where they came up. One thing -- in Spring, I usually
cultivate the beds thoroughly. This year, I didn't get around to
it until much later than usual, which resulted in getting seedlings
that I probably wiped out with early cultivation. I did cultivate
a bed last Fall that I was preparing for a new spring planting of
delphiniums, and that's where the best coneflower seedlings appeared --
nice, smooth, enriched soil. Hoping this heat does not wipe out all
the delphs!
