I've been having a different experience with my purple coneflowers. These
fade in the full sun to a pale lavender. When they are in partial shade,
the color is a deep pink. These are plants that I sowed many years ago, so
I don't know what variety it is. My plants self-sow to the point that they
can become weedy, and every year I pull up plants from everywhere. The
self-sown plants are just as huge as the originals and just as pink. My
blooms are about 4" across; the side shoots are about 2".
I'm reading different stories here lately, and I'm wondering what's going
on in my yard. I'm not coddling these plants and they are growing in
amended clay soil.
