Val - I agree with the "not coddling" - I believe that the coneflowers like
the culture such as would an herb (but now it is an herb isn't
it!)......abuse, abuse----I don't mean go out and beat it with a baseball bat
like you would treat a wisteria that won't bloom. No "special" treatment is
what I'm talking about - no extra water or fertilizer with these guys. My
seedlings always have a true color to them----they too are healthy
plants...the only difference being that sometimes the bloom stalks do not
reach the same height. I believe that has nothing to do with being a
seedling but with the fact that it popped up in someone elses spot in the
garden and he has to fight for the light......but I always seem to be
fortunate in that they always seem to pop up just in the right spot :o).
BTW - the cuttings are still living--so far!
