This is probably a good time to do the listowner-type stuff that I've
been neglecting for a while... A couple of points:

   o people shouldn't send attachments -- I can't see them, am often
not at a terminal with Web capabilities to view them in the archives,
and it *really* messes up the digests for people.

Any time that attachments are sent to the list our system *should*
automatically send a notice back to the sender informing them about
this policy, but I haven't tested it lately. Am actually considering
writing a MIME filter since I have to do it for another project,
so maybe we'll be totally attachment-free someday. But until
     then, please, no attachments.

o don't quote unnecessary text -- when you send a reply, it goes out
to hundreds of people worldwide. Make sure that you trim that
message down so that it's easier for people to read, it takes up
less disk space, etc. If you're quoting someone, only include the
relevant portions. Otherwise you're just making things harder
     for everyone else.

o keep your Subject: line appropriate -- this is one that I'm often
guilty of. :) If a discussion has changed direction, modify
your Subject: header to reflect this change. Messages labeled
"Dogs in the Garden" aren't appropriate when talking about
     slug prevention techniques.

Thanks,

Chris
