Sweet Potato Vine

A Question

I have a "Blackie" sweet potato vine in a hanging basket with yellow
begonias. It's hanging pretty close to the ground.. I've tried to keep
it off the ground, but haven't paid close attention to it for the past
few day. every day I water, but it's so hot I am in a hurry to get it
done and get out of the heat, but today I noticed it on the ground and
went over to pick the runner up and drape it over the wire hoop that is
around my clametis and it has grown to the ground "it has roots at
every place that a leaf is" and the runner is every bit of 5 ft.
long Is that grand or is that grand

I know this was discussed once on the list. can I leave them? will
they over winter in the ground? in zone 7

need some input on this subject
