sweet potato vine

Donna:

I believe the habit of this vine is to trail, not climb. They don't have
a mechanism such as tendrils to climb.
Having said that, the one that ate the porch, ' trailed' over three good
sized pots sitting on the porch. I managed to keep most of the
individual branches under 6 feet long. But one escaped under some bushes
and was easily 12 feet long.
Pruning this same plant seemed to just encourage it to grow. No bunching
was in evidence.
For Valerie: I had not considered leaf size, but no, the leaf on my
variegated cultivar has not had leaves as large as the green variety. I
am satisfied with the color on mine though. It is planted with an
eastern exposure.
