earlier and more in the midwest

I'm in Southeastern Wisconsin. We have had enormous amounts of rain
throughout May. Seven inches in one three day period, bringing us up to
11 inches in May for my area.

I don't know if it's all that rain, but my bearded Irises are going
nuts! My medium purples have produced 80 new blooms a day for about a
week - even in torrential rain! The coreopsis *nana* are blooming their
little heads off, right next to the dianthus deltoides - they are
spectacular.

One cute story - my son was helping me plant seeds last fall and planted
the hollyhocks for me. I showed him the area where I wanted him to
sprinkle the seeds and let him go at it. Never checked his work - he's
pretty reliable (he's 8) . . . . .

Well, my hollyhocks are now about 4 1/2 feet high - and about 6 feet
across - I think he dumped the entire seed packet in ONE PLACE! People
have stopped to ask what that interesting BUSH is!! LOL!
