I planted the double bloodroot four times before I got one to "take".  I 
don't know if they're just hard to get established or are particularly fussy 
about location.  It's a relatively expensive plant to go through all this 
for, but I've kept mine going for 6 years now and it is slowly increasing--I 
think I had four blooms this year.

It is planted in a place that gets some morning sun and is shaded just after 
blooming by an emerging heuchera and a hosta.  I never water it.  It is about 
2 feet out from a foundation wall and I think that spot stays fairly cool 
year-round because the cistern is behind it.
