I planted the double bloodroot four times before I got one to "take". I
don't know if they're just hard to get established or are particularly fussy
about location. It's a relatively expensive plant to go through all this
for, but I've kept mine going for 6 years now and it is slowly increasing--I
think I had four blooms this year.
It is planted in a place that gets some morning sun and is shaded just after
blooming by an emerging heuchera and a hosta. I never water it. It is about
2 feet out from a foundation wall and I think that spot stays fairly cool
year-round because the cistern is behind it.
