He's in Royal Oak, MI, a suburb of Detroit a little farther out than me,
thoroughly 6A. Yeah, it's pretty when all the double bloodroot is in
bloom. The first time I saw it, approaching his house I thought the wind
(or some kid) had strewn styrofoam "popcorns" all over his yard. ;-)
I don't know what it is about the bloodroot. I've brought it here, stuck
it in a seemingly impossibly spot up against my Siberian elm, and within
a year three (eyes?) have become nine. Two years ago I took some from
his house out to a friend's house out in Fowlerville (5A) and stuck it in
a seemingly impossible spot beneath some old viburnums it's covered a
space the equivalent of six square feet. Just can't imagine why it would
give other people problems. Maybe it just really likes Michigan --
SOMEONE has to! ;-)
Now if I could only convince lupines to like it here...
